Disney’s DinoLand to Begin Phased Closure in January 2025, Big Thunder Mountain Set for Major Refurbishment
Walt Disney World is preparing for significant changes in 2025, with the phased closure of DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom and an extended refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom.
DinoLand U.S.A. Transformation to Tropical Americas
Starting in January 2025, Disney will begin closing parts of DinoLand U.S.A. as it makes way for a new, immersive area called Tropical Americas, expected to open in 2027. As part of this transformation:
- TriceraTop Spin and the Fossil Fun Games will permanently close on January 13, 2025.
- Attractions like DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, and nearby dining spots will remain open for a while longer, giving guests the chance to enjoy them before future closures.
This transformation is set to bring a fresh experience to Animal Kingdom, with the Tropical Americas set to introduce new lands and attractions that immerse visitors in the wildlife and culture of Central and South America.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Refurbishment
In addition to DinoLand’s closure, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom will undergo an extensive refurbishment starting January 6, 2025. The ride will be out of operation for approximately a year, with plans to reopen in 2026. Disney promises that the classic attraction will return with “a little bit of new magic,” though specific details about the updates remain under wraps.
Disney’s Commitment to Enhancing Guest Experiences
Both the closure of DinoLand and the refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain are part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to evolve its parks and provide fresh, magical experiences for visitors. The upcoming changes signal a bright future for Walt Disney World as it continues to innovate and expand.
