In a troubling incident for the Orlando community, a U.S. Postal Service worker, Ottis McCoy Jr., faces accusations of discarding more than 1,000 pieces of mail—including election-related items—into a wooded area within an Orlando neighborhood. A criminal complaint filed by a postal inspector detailed the events and raised concerns as election season ramps up.

McCoy, who was responsible for delivering the mail, allegedly chose to discard it instead. Surveillance footage captured the moment, leading to an investigation. Among the items discarded were 400 election-related materials and one mail-in ballot, sparking alarm among local residents. The timing has further intensified worries, with many relying on mail-in voting as part of the current election process.
Neighbor Angel Cruz voiced the community’s concerns: “I’m just shocked. That’s personal information, important documents people are waiting for at home.”
McCoy’s employer noticed discrepancies when he returned from his route unusually early, prompting further scrutiny. He has since been arrested and faces charges of intentionally discarding mail, leaving Orlando residents questioning the security of their mail and the integrity of their votes.
